PRESENTATION OF SAUXILLANGES Sauxillanges village of 1200 inhabitants located on Water-Mother, a few kilometers from Issoire was from the tenth century one of the most important spiritual center.
In 927, a monastery was founded there became one of the "five adult daughters" of the Cluniac order. Its influence stretched over much of Lower Auvergne.
In the French Revolution, the monastery was butchered and sold.
In 1987, the association "Peter the Venerable" saved in the flagship: the old chapel "Notre-Dame du Bois", also called "Chapelle du Prieur".
Candidature of Cluniac sites for World Heritage The Pierre le Vénérable association and the municipality of Sauxillanges are committed to the process of registration on the World Heritage List, under the aegis of the European Federation of Cluniac sites and alongside 103 sites from 10 countries,
A local Sauxillanges committee has already been set up.
Its members will have to identify what locally allows the site to be included in the Outstanding Universal Value defended by the application, collect the necessary documentation, forge links with other European Sites and jointly organize actions to disseminate Cluniac values.
